The assignment of the investors, who returned from life in Belgium to Slovakia, was the design of a family house inspired by traditional Flemish-Belgian architecture with characteristic shaping, materiality, articulation, rich atmospheres and an interesting mass concept. The architecture of the house was to become a kind of intersection of cultures, countries and to carry the idea/identity of the investors themselves and their lives. The basic requirements were typical elements – brick façade, articulation of mass – roof, diversity and richness of atmospheres, use of the potential of the plot, elements of their favorite Art Nouveau style, art deco…

When designing, we were looking for the most suitable location, orientation to the cardinal points and form. We tried to find a balance between traditional / contemporary solutions and the landscape in which the house will stand. We wanted to create a house that is neither purely Belgian nor traditionally Slovak, but has a certain penetration in it, in which everyone can find what is closer to them. The mass composition has the proportions of mountain huts in the area as well as traditional Flemish houses, which are based on a cross scheme, where each arm has its own gable and rises into the surroundings. The design tries to make housing something exceptional, fairytale-like, but at the same time simple and legible.
